From the illustration at the left (consolidated from behavioral models developed by R.J. Godlewski), we can easily understand the complex but predictable influences upon another’s life. The linear progression model addresses the maturation process of the individual from infancy (where rules and policies of guardianship are established), to adolescence (where authority and heritage begin to be questioned by the individual) and rebellion (at around 12-25 years of age when the individual fully rebels against both authority and heritage), and finally climaxes when maturity (an infusion of life experiences and cultural upbringing) is established between 25 and 35 years of age. Human progress from the Certainty of Childhood to the Confidence of Adulthood is surrounded by asymmetrical influences of the world the individual matures through. These influences involve external prejudices such as education, religion, and conflicts, etc.; internal prejudices based upon fears, desires, and fantasies, etc.; and associative prejudices involving friendships, heroes, memberships, and co-workers, etc. These biases form the sea of conflict/indecision that tugs at natural progression towards maturity. The art and science of Human Intelligence (HUMINT) operations involves the intuitive detection of these traits within the targeted individual. To perceive an enemy’s thoughts, one must be able to identify those biases that formulate the adversary’s mannerisms, talents, and actions. The astute HUMINT practitioner must, therefore, employ the same gut instincts that both Wild West gunslingers and modern professional gamblers utilized to great effect. |
